Talent Acquisition Manager
Mia is the Talent Acquisition Manager of NextOp a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in Houston, Texas. Mia was named to her current position in March 2015.
Michelle A. Garcia (Mia) is a native Houstonian and proud Texan with a strong military record. She enlisted in the United State Marine Corps shortly after 9/11; served multiple enlistments with both active and reserve components including a yearlong deployment to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring & Iraqi Freedom. After serving over eight years and earning the rank of Sergeant, she received an honorable discharge in 2011. Attending college throughout the latter part of her military service Mia graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston with a Bachelors of Science in 2012.
After graduating she served as a volunteer for Lone Star Veterans Association (LSVA) where she found her passion to encourage and assist fellow veterans, specifically by helping them find meaningful careers. She soon became the Veteran Career Transition Manager taking on a direct role in assisting recently separated service members transitioning through mentorship, resume building, interview practice, and ultimately career placement.
Prior to joining NextOp, Mia was a Staffing Specialist for Baker Hughes and part of a small Military Recruiting Team that earned a national ranking from GI Jobs magazine for the third friendliest military employer. In addition she also became the Chapter Chairman of her local Veterans Resource Group, which encouraged mentorship, outreach, and engagement of local chapter veterans.
