reyRey is part of the EMP Team for NextOp a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Houston, Texas. Rey was named to his current position in August, 2016.

Previous Experience

Rey Mendez is from Houston, TX. He joined the Marine Corps after high school in 2007 and graduated from Marine Corps boot camp at MCRD San Diego, CA in August of that year. Upon graduating boot camp and MCT he was sent to begin training as an M1A1 Tank Crewman at Fort Knox, KY. In March of 2008 he graduated from the M1A1 Tank Crewman’s course with orders to 1st Tank Battalion in 29 Palms, California where he would spend two enlistments. During his two enlistments, Rey completed 2 deployments. In 2010, he deployed to Afghanistan to conduct security, and clearance operations. In 2012, He again deployed to Afghanistan, this time on tanks. In addition to deployments, Rey held numerous billets during his time at 1st Tanks.

His billets included being a tank driver, loader, gunner and tank commander. He also served in an administrative capacity as Alpha Company’s logistics and personnel management administrator. He attributes his experience to deployments, which helped him gain knowledge, critical thinking skills, management, leadership, and overall growth as a person. In 2014, after 8 years of service, Rey left the Marine Corps under conditions of honorable service. He started a new chapter of life by immediately pursuing an undergraduate education in Supply Chain and Logistics.
