The modern workforce is shifting at a rapid pace. For transitioning service members who possess world-class leadership, discipline, and problem-solving skills, this shift presents both a challenge and an unprecedented opportunity. However, translating these attributes into civilian careers requires a deliberate framework.
At NextOp, our mission is to bridge the gap between military talent and industry need. Since our founding in 2014, NextOp has successfully placed over 6,200 veterans into high-growth careers with an average starting salary of approximately $62,000. To sustain this momentum, we are moving beyond traditional job placement into advanced workforce development, blending emerging technologies with targeted training models.
Validating Tomorrow’s Workforce: The Navy Federal Credit Union IT Pilot
The cornerstone of our latest expansion is a cutting-edge pilot project funded by Navy Federal Credit Union. This initiative replaces rigid, one-size-fits-all bootcamps with a data-driven, mentored pathway that meets veterans exactly where they are. While military discipline is the perfect foundation for technology and cybersecurity, a lack of clear career mapping and credentialing barriers often stop veterans from landing high-wage technical roles.
To solve this, NextOp has partnered with Global Business Solutions, Inc. (GBSI), an industry leader in IT and cybersecurity training, to sponsor 15 veterans through rigorous technology training. The pilot incorporates high-touch coaching with advanced, scalable technology and will provide the credentialed veteran with an AI-enabled digital wallet.
The Innovation: Scalable High-Touch Coaching & AI-powered Digital Wallets
NextOp is built on the belief that one-on-one guidance and mentorship is the key difference-maker in career transitions. As our training partner, GBSI will serve as the industry expert, providing custom learning roadmaps and hands-on mentorship.
Simultaneously, we are leveraging technology to create scalable, precision hiring through two core innovations:
- The Digital Wallet Veteran Profile: Upon entry, each candidate is issued an AI-powered Digital Wallet. This serves as an agentic tool that analyzes military records, past training, and education. It acts as a permanent, verifiable record of their skills owned entirely by the candidate.
- AI-Enabled Skills Mapping: Instead of guessing where they fit, the AI-powered profile maps the fastest path to employment. This data ensures veterans follow a precision-engineered career plan rather than just taking a class.
- The AI-powered assessment and measure of gap analysis plus job market matching at scale accelerates a precision-fit opportunity for the candidate.
Flexible, Modular Training Pathways
Training is modular and rolling, allowing for specialized placement. Based on the AI profile, assessment, and targeted coaching, candidates enter one of three tiers, with all enrollment, instruction, and industry exam costs covered by the program:
- The Technical Sprint (1-4 Weeks): Rapid credentialing for veterans who already possess existing technical skills.
- The Career Shift (2-4 Months): Comprehensive foundational training for non-technical veterans.
- The Elite Path (5-9 Months): Specialized, “stackable” certifications specifically designed to target elite $90k+ technical roles.
Data-Driven Justification: The State of the Tech Workforce
Our focus on IT is backed by industry research, including the CompTIA State of the Tech Workforce report, which highlights technology as a primary engine of economic growth. The data justifies our focus: a persistent tech talent shortage makes veterans an immediate pipeline to fill critical gaps, while these high-demand positions secure long-term financial stability in core metropolitan hubs where veteran populations are densest.
Expanding the Continuum: Diversified Pathways to Prosperity
Because not every veteran wants a career in IT, true economic impact requires building multiple pathways across diverse industries.
- Rebuilding American Infrastructure: The TWC and ForgeNow Partnership
- In tandem with our tech initiatives, NextOp is addressing the critical shortage in skilled trades. We have partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) for a pilot project where 10 veterans receive accelerated, high-intensity instruction in essential commercial trades like HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, leading directly to lucrative, stable careers.
- Safeguarding National Security: The ATDM Relationship
- Our longest-standing institutional relationship is with the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program. Focused on national security and domestic supply chain resilience, this mature partnership has produced over 75 veterans who utilize advanced manufacturing skills to build and maintain the next generation of naval vessels within the Maritime Industrial Base (MIB).
The Strategic Outlook and Long-Term Tracking
NextOp’s expansion strategy is built on data, technology, and trust. This Navy Federal Credit Union pilot program will serve as a model for long-term outcome validation. NextOp will use the AI-powered digital wallet data for skills gap analysis and precision placement, matching veterans directly to high-wage employers. Furthermore, NextOp will survey candidates for one full year post-employment, leveraging an option for automated employment verification via the digital wallet.
Whether through AI-driven IT training alongside GBSI, state-funded skilled trades, or defense manufacturing pipelines, we ensure that no veteran is left underemployed. We invite corporate leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders to join us. Investing in veteran upskilling secures a competitive advantage for your organization and a stronger economic future for our nation.
